Chicago Crime Rates Continue to Drop
Gun violence in Chicago is at a four year low. Burglaries and robberies are at a 20 year low. All while fewer people were incarcerated in Cook County Jail this year than at any time in the last thirty years.
Mayor Lori Lightfoot and Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson must stop attacking bond reform and pretrial freedom. These numbers make it abundantly clear that bond reform efforts have not endangered our communities. In fact, reducing pretrial incarceration makes us all safer, as fewer people are jailed and have their lives destabilized through loss of jobs, housing, medical and mental health care, and positive social supports.
