New Report: “Pursuing Pretrial Freedom: The Urgent Need for Bond Reform in Illinois”
Today, the Coalition to End Money Bond is proud to release “Pursuing Pretrial Freedom: The Urgent Need for Bond Reform in Illinois.” Illinois’ 102 counties are home to 92 different jails. More than a quarter of a million people pass through their doors annually, and 90% of them are incarcerated pretrial. Every day, thousands of people are caged in Illinois, not because of a criminal conviction, but simply because they cannot afford to purchase their freedom. This timely report explores the impact of money bond and pretrial incarceration across Illinois and makes recommendations for how the state can reform its pretrial justice system.
