People’s Convening for Pretrial Freedom, July 13th in Springfield, IL!
Across Illinois, a movement for pretrial justice is growing. Join the Coalition to End Money Bond for the first gathering of the Illinois Network for Pretrial Justice on July 13, 2019 in Springfield, IL. At the People’s Convening for Pretrial Freedom, people from across the state will gather to share knowledge, build relationships, and develop strategies to end unjust pretrial practices and build toward a more just future in our state!
In December 2017, the Illinois Supreme Court convened a Commission on Pretrial Practices which will make recommendations for reforms to this unjust system in December 2019. We’re calling on the Commission to recommend a Supreme Court Rule that would end the unjust practice of using unaffordable money bonds to incarcerate people pretrial. Commission members and other policymakers will be invited to hear from and speak with people impacted by pretrial incarceration as well as policy experts, organizers and community members from across Illinois at the People’s Convening for Pretrial Freedom.
The convening will feature workshops from experts on electronic monitoring and risk assessment tools, an art-making session, a panel discussion, and a rally and march. Make your voice heard and join us as we come together to free our people!
This event is free and open to the public. Lunch will be served and advanced registration is required. Please register on Eventbrite to let us know you plan to attend!
