Former judges, prosecutors urge Illinois Supreme Court to Reform Bail

We are grateful to our friends at Hughes Socol Piers Resnick & Dym, Ltd.and The Roderick & Solange MacArthur Justice Center who put together this letter in support of ending wealth-based pretrial incarceration signed by more than 80 leaders in the legal field.

“A group of 87 attorneys, many of them prominent former federal and state prosecutors, judges, and law professors, have signed their names to a letter that urges the Illinois Supreme Court to adopt rules that would ensure indigent suspects are not held in custody before trial only because of their inability to pay bail.”

This letter supports the same proposed court rule endorsed by the Coalition to End Money Bond. You can read our letter to the Illinois Supreme Court, submitted last fall, and the proposed rule here.
